Eat So They Can Newsletter

Eat So They Can

Dear ,

Welcome to the first Eat So They Can newsletter for 2011! We are excited to be up and running again for the year, and look forward to working with you. This year we are hoping to raise $200,000 to support women and children around the world! We will be in touch very soon with more information about the 2011 campaign, but for now, here are a few updates to whet your appetite.

Change is afoot in the Eat So They Can office! We are excited to announce the addition of three new members to the Eat So They Can team. Lydia, Fiona, and Luke are our new interns joining us for the 2011 Eat So They Can campaign, and will be focusing on the regions of South America, Asia, and Africa respectively. More information about the interns, along with a stunning photograph of each, can be found on the Eat So They Can blog, which you can find here.

Save the date! This year's Eat So They Can campaign will take place over the weekend of 15-16 October. Of course, you can still host an event outside of this weekend, but these dates will be the focus of the campaign in order to coincide with World Food Day. Here's to ESTC 2011!

With gratitude,

Eliza Raymond

What's new for 2011?

This year, ESTC will be supporting three key causes; Orphaned and Vulnerable Children, Women’s Empowerment, and Greatest Need. For more on our causes visit http://www.eatsotheycan.org/discover-what-we-do/our-causes/ .

As with previous years, you will also have the option to support a specific partner organization of your choice; in Africa, Asia, or the Americas.

We are also pleased to announce that we have a new website system, which we hope will make it easier for you to organize and manage your events.

For those of you who have already registered with us in the past, please follow these steps to get started for this year;

1. Log-in to your account by clicking here.
2. Update your profile page by clicking on ‘edit my profile’.
3. Check out your event from last year by clicking on ‘view this event’s details’.
4. ‘Create a new event’ for this year by clicking the big orange button.

If you have never registered as an Eat So They Can host before, please go to http://www.eatsotheycan.org/user/register and sign-up as a host. Once you have signed-up, our website will automatically create a personal profile page for you and you'll then be able to create your event page.

If you have any questions about our new system, please let us know and we'll be happy to help!

Become a 2011 Eat So They Can Ambassador!

Hosted an event last year and hungry for more?

We are now on the hunt for ambassadors for the 2011 Eat So They Can campaign. Ambassadors play a crucial role in the campaign, helping us to spread the word about Eat So They Can, and reach our fundraising goals. As an ambassador, it is your job to host at least one event, recruit other hosts, and promote Eat So They Can in the media and in your community. Ambassadors who raise over $20,000 will be invited to join one of our 2012 Distribution Trips - all expenses paid!

If this sounds like the challenge for you, you can find out more and apply to be an ambassador at http://www.eatsotheycan.org/meet-the-team/ambassadors/

Distribution

A huge thank you to our Kenya distribution team!

Our April 2011 trip to Kenya was a huge success. A small team, including three of our fantastic ambassadors, flew to Kenya for a week-long trip. While in Kenya, they delivered supplies to schools, orphanages, and IDP (Internally Displaced People) camps and got to see first-hand the impact that Eat So They Can is having. We hear they also managed to get up close and personal with some of Kenya’s most famous wildlife! You can check out photos from the trip on our facebook fanpage.

Our next distribution trip is to Peru, in August of this year. This will be the first Eat So They Can distribution trip to Peru, and we would love it if you could come along! Eliza will be leading the trip and is looking forward to sharing her love of Peru and our amazing projects with the team.

Distribution trips are a great way for past and future hosts to see exactly where their funds go. Whether you have hosted an event in the past, plan to host one in the future, or simply want to donate to Eat So They Can, a distribution trip may be the perfect opportunity for you to experience for yourself how the funds raised though Eat So They Can affect the lives of those in the developing communities we support. 2010 Achievements

A huge thank you to our amazing ambassadors and hosts from 2010! We raised a total of $179,000 in 2010 and these funds are having a huge impact on the lives of women and children around the world. Here are just a few examples of some of the projects your funds have made possible:

  • In Uganda, a large goat farm (up to 400 animals) is being set up to support 150 orphaned and vulnerable children.
“Thanks so much for supporting us out here. I can’t believe we’re going to make such a big farm!” - Leslie, The Real Uganda
  • In Rwanda, 50 kids will now receive lunch every day for the next year and will have more energy to concentrate and learn at school.
“We are very happy that our project was accepted. Wow! This is good news for the children!” – Willy, FVA
  • In Peru, a jewelry workshop is being set up to provide mothers with an alternative source of income to support their families.
“I am so happy about this opportunity. It is a dream come true for the mothers here.” – Marlene, Huchuy Yachaq.
